Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation
Visa Gift Card Program – "Filling the Gap"

The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation provides community assistance through our program called "Filling the Gap." This program is designed to give immediate short-term financial assistance to families who have been burned out of their homes or lack essential items for survival after an emergency. The Foundation, in partnership with Nevada Federal Credit Union, has produced custom $20 Visa gift cards for this purpose. These cards have been provided to all 17 fire stations within the city limits so that firefighters may give them out as needed on a case-by-case basis.

Program Vision and Goal
The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Foundation was founded in 2003 as a fulfillment of a dream and vision by Chief David L. Washington. He routinely witnessed firefighters taking money from their own pockets to give to victims where they had just responded to an emergency at their homes. Frequently, firefighters provide "gap" emergency funding assistance to needy Las Vegans in need of food, over-the-counter medications, baby formula, diapers, and other basic necessities. The goal of this program is to provide short-term “gap” funding assistance for the victim(s) in the form of $20 Visa gift cards, thereby allowing them to survive the night, or weekend until they can access an existing social agency such as HELP of Southern Nevada for long-term care.
